Ströh de Martínez, C. et al. (2018): Inclusive Insurance in National Financial Inclusion Strategies Survey Report

To strengthen financial resilience and inclusion, we supported an international study on how insurance is integrated into National Financial Inclusion Strategies (NFIS). Conducted jointly by the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii) and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), the study combined a global survey with four detailed country case studies.

The results show that while inclusive insurance has gained importance over the past decade, it is only recently being systematically integrated into national financial sector strategies. Among 36 surveyed countries, most have already adopted or are developing NFIS, with nearly half treating insurance as a key pillar of financial inclusion. The report provides valuable lessons and practical guidance for regulators and policymakers on how to embed insurance more effectively into national strategies to promote inclusive and sustainable financial systems.
